10/4/19 – Henry Luthin – receives 2019  Shattuck Public Service Award  — MMLA extends it sincere congratulations to our past president, mentor and friend Henry Luthin, Fist Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Boston on being selected as a recipient of the prestigious Shattuck Public Service Award.  To quote from today’s Boston Globe story, “Henry C. Luthin is being honored for his extensive knowledge and skills that help solve a number of complicated legal issues.  He’s the first assistant corporation counsel at the law department in the City of Boston.”  Henry is an active member of the MMLA, having served on the Executive Board, as Vice-President and as President.  He continues to be active in our events, is a frequent speaker and an active member of the listserve.  He has mentored many municipal counsel and always remains available to offer is sage counsel and advice.  Congratulations Henry on an honor well deserved!

8/5/19 – Atty. Robert D. O’Leary of Milton passed away peacefully August 1, 2019.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary L. (Driscoll) O’Leary and devoted father of Robert D. O’Leary, Jr. and his wife, Mary Ellen of North Easton and Beth Hommes and her husband, Bill of Hilton Head, SC. He was the cherished grandfather of Catherine L. Becker of Stoneham, Christine E. Hommes of NY, NY, Robert D. O’Leary III of South Boston, James M. O’Leary of Santa Monica, CA and Brian P. O’Leary of NY, NY. He is also survived by his Great-grandchildren: Sara Becker, Leila O’Leary, Hailey O’Leary, and Chase O’Leary. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church, Milton, Tuesday August 6, 2019 at 10 am.  Attorney O’Leary was a graduate of Boston College and Boston College Law School. He was the former Town Counsel for the Town of Milton.

8/13/18 – State and Local Legal Center – MMLA and IMLA have a special partnership relationship with the State & Local Legal Center (SLLC), a great legal advocate for cities and towns. With its permission, and with attribution, SLCC allows us to pass along on this website reports sent to IMLA members relating to cases decided by the SCOTUS, pending before the Court, or destined to get there.  In Knick v. 8/2/18 – MMLA is sad to announce the passing of cherished member Edward J. Ryan, Jr., a longtime municipal lawyer and strong supporter of the MMLA.  Ed was a highly esteemed and active contributor to the municipal law community.  We will remember him not only for the sage advice that he so generously and frequently offered his colleagues, but also for his warm, friendly and caring nature.  He will be widely and deeply missed.  Click here for details.

April 26, 2018 – The DOR Division of Local Services has announced that it will be accepting applications for the position of  Chief of the Bureau of Municipal Finance Law upon the anticipated retirement of Kathleen Colleary in the near future. For details, click on Career Opportunities.
